About I am a teenager who wants to live in NYC After HS

I am a teenager who wants to live in NYC After HS?!?
I am 17 and from a town called Lubbock TX. 250,000 people, and I want to move to NYC after HS. What are your thoughts on this? How do I do this? Where Can I live? How do I find a place to live before I move? I am going to get an EMT-Basic Certification so I can work in a hospital ER and then I plan to go to nursing school. I am very confused. What should I do?

NYC is a VERY expensive place to live. If you still want to go there, I would get your EMT training first, then look for a way to move there. There are hundreds of thousands of people in NYC who don't have skills to make a living. You'll be ahead of them if you have a marketable skill when you arrive.

There are many places available where you can live except Manhattan. The reason, Manhattan is expensive to rent a apartment. The average rent for a studio is about $1000 and up. My advice, consider renting an apartment in the outer boroughs, like Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. Also have enough money to rent an apartment, so if I were you, I would start saving right now. Since you're going to be a Certified EMT, the best I can tell is apply for the Fire Department exam and take the test. Once you pass the exam and train to be a paramedic in the FDNY, you can work as an EMT for the City of New York. At the same time you're working as an EMT, you can attend nursing school. I hope this information was very helpful. Good luck on you future endeavors.

Establish residence in NYC then you can go to Hunter College to become an RN at very cheap tuition! Its nursing program is very highly regarded.

well, to add to some of this very good advice,i would try living somewhere in the north Bronx, there are all kinds of hospitals there, and when you travel to work, the traveling would be easier, renting an apt, sometimes you would have to share an apt, and the rents are expensive, the subway and bus fares are two dollars one way, so if you have to take a train and bus, that is eight dollars a day, be prepared, nyc, is like nothing you have ever seen or been in, and do not listen to those television shows, they are goofy, i was raised in a place in the Bronx, called Woodlawn, these are all ethnic communities now, much different from when i grew up there, i would not return, nyc and i have parted ways forever, just not my kind of place, good luck to you, and that advice about taking tests for nyfd might be a good idea, don,t just go there unprepared, and don,t go without money, you will be living in the street for sure, nyc is that kind of town, take care, and good luck, and if you know how to speak spanish, with a puerto rican tint, you are ahead of the game, if you are irish, the north Bronx is for you, the rents run anywhere from six hundred to over a thousand dollars, and that is sharing an apt, you might want to go to YOnkers, which is right outside of the city, north of the Bronx, get yourself a map,and ask more questions on the internet, write to the chamber of commerce or whatever the tourist board, take it easy

when you first start out, the best place to live is in like brooklyn or queens where the rent is cheeper, and then once you start making money from your job you can move to a move expensive area perhaps in manhattan maybe next to your job.

why don't you just come here first and figure it all out as you go along? otherwise you might just convince yourself never to do it. so many generations before you have come here on the fly and have done just fine. too much advice is almost useless, and this will be a chance to prove your mettle...
